The National Registration Department of Malaysia, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, needed a way to launch the world’s first national multi-purpose smart card for identification, immigration, banking, transportation, and medical services. Entrust worked with Datasonic to support the MyKad initiative with a scalable, localized card issuance platform, including Datacard MX6000 systems and Datacard Affina issuance software.

Entrust implemented a centralized, high-volume smart card issuance solution using secure laser engraving, color printing, and hybrid smart cards, helping the National Registration Department improve security, reliability, and functionality for Malaysia’s national ID program. The result was a successful national rollout that now issues more than 3 million cards annually, with roughly 20 million cardholders and a card lifecycle of about 10 years.
