Memjet, a provider of digital inkjet technology, faced the challenge of securing its remote manufacturing and licensing processes for its OEM partners. They needed a robust system to generate and sign unique digital identities for printer components to ensure authenticity and prevent counterfeiting, while also needing to refresh their back-office cryptographic key management infrastructure. To address this, they turned to vendor Entrust and its nShield HSMs.

Entrust implemented a solution using its nShield Solo HSMs for always-on manufacturing servers and nShield Edge HSMs for air-gapped systems. This provided Memjet with increased security and end-customer quality assurance, enabled the use of smart cards for secure multi-factor operator authentication, and allowed for remote HSM management which reduced travel costs. The solution futureproofed Memjet's intellectual property and securely supported their global manufacturing operations.
