Case Study: GreenBank boosts debit card activation with Entrust instant issuance

GreenBank, a Tennessee-based bank with 63 branches, wanted to boost debit card activation and usage because nearly a third of new customers were not using their cards. To solve this, GreenBank sought an instant issuance solution that would let it personalize and hand out MasterCard debit cards at account opening, while integrating smoothly with its Jack Henry core system. Entrust, through its CardWizard instant issuance software and FCP 20/20 card printer, was selected as the vendor to help address this challenge.

Entrust implemented a branch-based instant issuance program that let customers choose a PIN, have cards printed and encoded in about 60–75 seconds, and leave the branch with an immediately active debit card. After a three-branch pilot showed strong gains, GreenBank expanded to 52 branches over 18 months. The results included significantly higher activation and usage rates, with days to first use reduced by as much as 10 days versus mailed cards, along with improved debit spend per card and strong acceptance from both customers and branch staff.
