Nedbank, one of South Africa’s largest banks, wanted to expand its digital banking and mobile payments offerings while reducing phishing and other digital fraud. To address this, the bank partnered with Entersekt and implemented Entersekt’s mobile-PKI-based strong customer authentication to replace OTP-based authentication with a more secure, user-friendly approach.
With Entersekt’s solution, Nedbank launched its App Suite and later Nedbank Money, enabling safer mobile services such as personal financial management, online stock trading, and scan-to-pay functionality. The results were dramatic: successful phishing attacks dropped by more than 99% almost overnight, fraud was nearly eliminated in the first 11 months, and the solution protected 23 million transactions worth more than R15 billion.
