Capitec Bank boosts card use and checkout rates with a streamlined 3-D Secure experience

Capitec Bank, a leading South African retail bank, needed a better way to handle card-not-present fraud and reduce high cart abandonment in its 3-D Secure checkout flow. Its earlier password-based authentication process was clunky, required separate manual enrollment, and created friction for customers completing online purchases. Entersekt was brought in to improve the experience using its secure authentication platform.

Entersekt implemented an in-app, one-touch 3-D Secure solution that pushes transaction details to Capitec customers’ mobile devices for real-time approval or rejection, removing the need for passwords and enabling automatic enrollment at account creation. The results were strong: successful transactions increased by 54% in six months, transaction value grew 149% in the first year, and later changes to warn customers about transaction limits lifted conversion on affected payments by 150% in just over a week.
