A EnterpriseDB Case Study
Mastercard, which runs a diverse mix of databases and acquired a payment gateway (and its Postgres estate) in 2014, faced a critical availability challenge: prolonged disaster-recovery switchovers and maintenance operations (vacuum full, reindex, etc.) threatened the company’s 99.999% uptime requirement for payment processing.
By adopting Postgres logical replication and xDB multi-master replication (MMR), Mastercard achieved reliably faster failovers and enabled real-time, filtered data migration across continents to meet PII residency rules. The solution also let target servers apply triggers and business logic, supported concurrent processing across data centers, materially reduced failover time, and delivered the practical “zero downtime” resilience the business required.
