People’s Postcode Lottery Meets Cost Reduction Goal with EDB Postgres

People’s Postcode Lottery, an external lottery manager that raises funds for charities across the U.K., faced growth limits and rising IT costs as it planned to scale transactions and expand into new regions. Its existing Oracle database infrastructure would have required costly licence upgrades and higher ongoing maintenance, so the data team sought a more scalable, cost‑effective alternative without a disruptive rip‑and‑replace.

With help from systems integrator Trivento, the organisation migrated to EDB Postgres Advanced Server and implemented Red Hat JBoss Fuse for integration, leveraging EDB’s Oracle compatibility to keep existing skills and tools. The new architecture cut operational costs by about 25%, improved functionality and deployment speed, reduced vendor lock‑in, and provided a scalable roadmap for rolling the solution out to the Netherlands and Sweden while supporting increased ticket sales for charity.
