KT Corporation Powers IoT Services with EDB Postgres

KT Corporation, South Korea’s largest telephone and broadband provider, faced rising costs and the need for greater flexibility and performance as it upgraded legacy telecom infrastructure and moved into cloud, big data and IoT services. The company wanted to replace expensive legacy vendors, support new mission-critical, high-throughput workloads, and enable a wide range of consumer and enterprise IoT offerings.

Following a successful proof of concept—EDB Postgres handled 30,000 iPhone orders in the first 60 seconds—KT deployed EDB Postgres across 130 high-performance systems and adopted open-source OS and middleware. The switch cut software costs by about 80% over five years, delivered the stability and performance needed to launch multiple IoT services (GiGA IoT Home, Open IoT Infrastructure, GiGA IoT Health, KT GiGA IoT), supported its >1 Gbps GiGA network, and helped KT GiGA IoT win the 2016 IoT Innovation Award.
