Clear Capital Shrinking Oracle Costs with EDB Postgres is Priceless

Clear Capital, a Reno-based leader in residential and commercial real estate valuations and analytics, manages data on roughly 122 million properties and 15 million appraisals—including the mission-critical Home Data Index used by hundreds of internal users and thousands of external vendors. Facing high Oracle licensing and costly geospatial solutions, the company sought a lower-cost, scalable database platform that could support heavy geospatial workloads and future growth.

Clear Capital migrated Home Data Index from Oracle to EDB Postgres Plus (using PostGIS) beginning in 2009, with EDB support during an 8.4 beta rollout; about 80% of the Oracle code mapped directly, and PL/SQL compatibility minimized retraining. The migration completed in about three months, scaled smoothly (600 GB to 1 TB by 2015), and led to additional database migrations to EDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server 9.1—substantially reducing Oracle costs while enabling continued expansion and reliable geospatial capabilities.
