BKD Chooses EDB to Modernize Tools Supporting Flower Bulb Inspection Industry

The Bloembollenkeuringsdienst (BKD) is the Dutch flower bulb inspection authority that certifies bulb quality for domestic and international trade. As part of a paper-to-digital overhaul, BKD needed a scalable, highly available database that could integrate with many growers’ ERP systems and web inputs, replace a brittle Ingres backend, and support industry-wide adoption and future analytics.

Working with Nibble IT, BKD built a new system on EDB/PostgreSQL (Advanced Server plus monitoring, backup, failover and replication tools) that became the national standard for bulb transactions. The solution sped development, automated ingestion of ~90% of data via APIs, improved stability and performance over Ingres, enabled a new data warehouse for trade and infection insights and predictions, reduced paperwork and physical inspections, and led to migration of legacy registries to EDB.
