Pentel, a global manufacturer of writing instruments and art materials, needed to replace aging servers running Oracle E-Business Suite 11i and Oracle Database 9i. Its existing UNIX-based infrastructure was costly to maintain, slow, and occasionally unreliable, making it difficult to support business growth and find staff with the right expertise.
Enterprise Computing Solutions helped Pentel move to an HP BladeSystem environment with HP ProLiant BL465c and BL685c AMD Opteron servers, HP StorageWorks EVA 4000 storage, Linux, and VMware virtualization. The new solution improved uptime, performance, and manageability, cut power and cooling costs, and reduced report generation time from 45 minutes to five minutes; new applications and servers can now be deployed in minutes instead of days.
