Mainframe with cloud-like capabilities comes to the Sunshine State with Ensono’s Mainframe-as-a-Service

Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC), which supports Florida state agencies, faced an aging mission-critical mainframe platform, scarce mainframe skills, and looming staff retirements as modernization efforts across agencies created uncertainty about future demand. To address these challenges, NWRDC worked with Ensono on a mainframe-as-a-service approach that could provide modern hardware, scalability, and operational continuity.

Ensono implemented a remote-hosted mainframe-as-a-service solution in NWRDC’s data centers using two IBM z15 Business Class mainframes. The result was significant performance improvements over the previous IBM z10 system, along with reduced software costs through consolidation, while giving agencies flexibility to modernize applications without increasing other agencies’ mainframe costs.
