A Ensemble Video Case Study
St. John Fisher College’s Wegmans School of Pharmacy used videotaped simulated patient counseling sessions in its capstone course to develop students’ clinical communication skills, but the program was hamstrung by a manual DVD-based workflow. With nine study rooms capturing dozens of videos per session, staff were producing and mailing 50–100 DVDs every cycle, causing long turnarounds, security risks, and heavy workloads for IT and faculty while faculty offsite waited weeks for materials.
The college implemented Ensemble Video alongside Crestron and Digital Rapids to automate capture, transcoding, secure library-based publishing, and LMS embedding, plus attachments for student self-reflection and faculty rubrics. The new system cut turnaround from weeks to near-instant streaming, tightened access controls so students see only their own recordings, reduced staff effort, improved feedback speed and grading, and created a reusable video library for teaching and training.
