Case Study: Community College of Allegheny County achieves safer, more energy-efficient campuses with Enlighted

Enlighted, a Siemens company, partnered with the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) to address the pandemic-driven challenge of safely reopening dense academic spaces. CCAC needed to increase airflow, minimize COVID-19 exposure in classrooms and common areas, and meet CDC guidance while also pursuing energy-efficiency and sustainability goals across its campuses.

The solution modernized building management across 13 buildings on four campuses (about 1.8 million sq ft), installing LED fixtures with IoT sensors and centralizing data to automate HVAC and lighting based on occupancy and daylight. This approach increased airflow and reduced exposure risk, cut daily energy consumption, improved space management and learning environments, and advanced CCAC’s short-term cost reductions and long-term decarbonization targets.
