High Performance Building Reaches New Heights with Enlighted Lighting Control

Enlighted (Building Robotics, Inc.) tested its smart lighting solution in San Jose City Hall — a LEED Platinum municipal building — to see whether bolt-on sensors, wireless controls, occupancy detection and daylight harvesting could further improve comfort and cut energy use in an already high-performance space. The challenge was to retrofit lighting control at the fixture level without disrupting operations while proving measurable energy and comfort gains.

The deployed system included 118 smart sensors (one per T8 fixture), two gateways and an energy manager, all managed from a web-based console. By using zoning, dimming (office lighting set to 40% max), occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting, the city achieved 50–53% lighting energy savings, delivered personalized light settings that improved occupant comfort, and demonstrated additional operational tuning opportunities beyond LEED certification.
