California State University Teams With Enlighted to Significantly Reduce Energy Consumption

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), a public university in Los Angeles, needed to reduce heavy energy use, cut costs, and be a responsible steward of scarce resources across a campus of more than 1M square feet. Facilities leadership identified overlit corridors and always-on systems as a major waste and launched a phased lighting retrofit to lower lighting and HVAC loads without disrupting campus operations.

CSUDH partnered with Enlighted to retrofit existing fixtures with wireless advanced sensors that use daylight harvesting, human-specific motion sensing and local intelligent control. The rollout — ultimately covering roughly 90% of campus (around 8,000 sensors) — delivered major results: about $1M in energy savings to date, large annual kWh and dollar reductions per building, utility rebates, improved occupant comfort, HVAC integration for further savings, and industry awards for the project.
