Shift, a company that provides a browser for simplifying online experiences by consolidating apps and tools into a single window, faced significant challenges with its Chromium build process. Despite using powerful hardware, builds were painfully slow, taking up to 6 hours on CI and up to 15 hours locally, which frustrated developers and created a major bottleneck. They implemented EngFlow's co-managed remote build execution (RBE) service to address this.

EngFlow's solution dramatically accelerated build times, with improvements ranging from 2-8x faster and up to 15x faster when the cache was warm. This reduced a local build from 5.5 hours to just 37 minutes. The co-managed model saved Shift at least one full-time equivalent in resources by having EngFlow manage the RBE cluster.
