Using Persuasion Design Principles to Increase Donations by 79%

Action on Hearing Loss, a UK charity supporting people with hearing loss, faced a challenge in its online fundraising. The existing donation process for its holiday campaign was not effectively conveying its story, was difficult to use, and lacked a PayPal option. They partnered with Engaging Networks to address these issues and build a new donation funnel.

Working with Engaging Networks' platform and its partner 54 Degrees, the charity redesigned its funnel using persuasion principles like authority and reciprocity. The new design simplified the form, added PayPal, and told a compelling story. The results from Engaging Networks were significant: a 79% year-on-year increase in online donations, a 4% rise in average donation value, and nearly half of all donations coming through PayPal.
