Recognizing exceptional effort improves employee productivity and retention at Emory Healthcare

Emory Healthcare, a 16,000-employee academic health system, faced industry-wide pressures to improve patient care while managing rising demand, shrinking reimbursements and workforce shortages. To reinforce its culture (including “The Pledge” and related teamwork and leadership initiatives), Emory implemented an employee recognition program delivered through Engage2Excel to make it easy for managers to acknowledge behaviors that support patient care and retention.

Engage2Excel’s recognition solution enabled managers to send encouragement, award points redeemable for merchandise, and reinforce behaviors tied to organizational goals. Independent analysis found participation in the program correlated with better retention and productivity: Emory’s turnover fell 2% to 11% (about 40% below the national average), and program participants were 31% more productive—with roughly 7% of that productivity difference attributed directly to the recognition program provided by Engage2Excel.
