A EnergyCAP Case Study
Lexington‑Fayette Urban County Government (Lexington), served by a three‑person Energy Initiatives Section, managed hundreds of dispersed utility accounts across municipal facilities and lacked meter‑level visibility and granular cost/use analysis. Facing decentralized, bill‑payment–focused processes, the team sought an off‑the‑shelf, web‑based energy and utility management platform and selected EnergyCAP’s utility bill accounting and energy management solution.
EnergyCAP centralized more than 1,200 electric, water, and natural‑gas accounts (about $19M annual spend), importing roughly 98% of bills, automating audits and reports, and providing meter‑level visibility. That visibility let Lexington right‑size over 500 electric meters (saving $706,000 in 2012), achieve $230,000 first‑year savings on natural gas through bulk pricing, and improve chargebacks, forecasting, and maintenance planning—making EnergyCAP the county’s authoritative utility data source.
