Electrifying energy management: Miami-Dade County discovers the power of focused team leadership

Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the fourth largest school district in the U.S., faced the challenge of replacing a legacy mainframe system to manage and visualize energy data. This was critical for achieving its ambitious goal of transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2030. The district needed a modern data management platform to track utility consumption, identify savings opportunities, and support its extensive sustainability initiatives, a challenge they tasked their Operations team under Luis Martinez to solve with help from vendor EnergyCAP.

The solution implemented was EnergyCAP's Energy & Sustainability ERP software, starting with a pilot for electric utility data. EnergyCAP provided the district with paperless billing, customizable dashboards for real-time energy use visibility, and detailed reporting capabilities. This enabled the facilities team to easily identify inefficiencies and compare performance across its nearly 400 schools. The measurable results included improved processes and data-driven decision making, leading Miami-Dade to expand its use of EnergyCAP to manage water and sewer data as a key tool in its ongoing sustainability and cost-reduction efforts.
