Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) - Customer Case Study

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), a 17,000-student institute in Cork, Ireland, needed visibility into kitchen energy use so it could teach future chefs green practices. EnergyCAP provided an appliance-level energy management solution to give CIT real‑time monitoring and reporting of kitchen and ventilation energy consumption, addressing the institute’s lack of measurement and control.

EnergyCAP’s installation monitored two electrical distribution boards—including 5 air-handling units and 15 major kitchen appliances—using software recognition to reduce submetering. The system produced time-of-use and individual power reports, enabled AHUs to be switched off at night, sent daily notifications and real-time alerts for anomalies, and identified costly resistive offenders (e.g., cup washer, coffee machine, hot-water boiler). Measurable results included a monthly appliance cost total of €535.83 (examples: DishWash €113.56, PanWash €107.30, Baln Marie €128.91), documented savings and improved teaching materials for CIT—outcomes CIT reported as highly reliable and valuable for student learning.
