A EnergyCAP Case Study
The City of Tucson needed a way to measure and manage utility use across 900+ buildings and more than 4,000 meters so it could set citywide energy performance goals for its 5,400+ employees. Before purchasing EnergyCAP’s utility bill management software in November 2013, Tucson relied on a limited Access database with hand‑keyed gas bills and siloed accounting that produced errors, poor transparency, and no easy way to baseline or target savings.
EnergyCAP implemented a centralized billing, auditing and reporting solution (including reformatters, EDI imports and a chargebacks module) that automated bill splits, improved data granularity, and put utility accounting and dashboards into the hands of stakeholders. As a result, the City of Tucson now manages nearly all utility payments through EnergyCAP, expects about 20 hours per month saved in Accounts Payable, has identified corrective actions saving roughly $8,000 per month from two buildings, and has gained the transparency and processes to track avoided costs and set energy goals.
