A EnergyCAP Case Study
The University of Kansas, a multi-campus teaching and research institution, faced complex enterprise energy management challenges: tracking and auditing more than 1,100 meters and submeters across 175 buildings, allocating energy use to many divisions and departments, and accurately processing internal chargebacks that total over $2.3 million annually. To address these needs, KU turned to EnergyCAP energy management software.
EnergyCAP was implemented campus-wide (managing about 90% of KU’s property) to automate bill entry and audits, perform bill splits and calculated accounts with Visual Basic scripting for complex chargebacks, export invoices to the campus accounting system, and provide PowerViews trend analysis and interval data processing. EnergyCAP’s bill audit processes also helped identify issues such as a plumbing leak, and its Cost Avoidance M&V tools verified savings from a steam-piping insulation project estimated at 180,000 therms and $100,000 annually—while streamlining reporting and improving accuracy for KU’s chargeback operations.
