The customer, Merck, a major science and technology company, required a solution for the dull, difficult, and frequent monitoring of its thermal exhaust treatment facilities. The vendor, Energy Robotics, equipped a Boston Dynamics Spot robot with its autonomy software and a suite of sensors to automate these critical inspection rounds.

The Energy Robotics solution enabled the Spot robot to autonomously perform one-hour-long inspection missions, climbing industrial stairs and navigating a multi-story plant to gather data on assets. This automated process increased inspection frequency and consistency. The data collected is poised to enable predictive maintenance, improve long-term operational efficiency, and enhance environmental protection efforts for Merck.
