UMass Boston Installs Solar, Battery Storage, and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Through Partnership with Enel X

UMass Boston, a 120-acre university campus serving more than 16,000 students, wanted to advance its long-term sustainability goals while improving energy management and reducing costs. To support this effort, the school partnered with Enel X on a fully financed, turnkey clean energy project that included solar, storage, and EV charging technology.

Enel X installed a 1 MW solar PV system, a 500 kW/2 MWh lithium-ion battery, and 11 JuiceBox smart EV charging stations, all optimized through DER software to reduce peak energy costs and better align energy use with grid conditions. The project is projected to generate more than $1.5 million in total value, while also earning program payments, lowering demand-related charges, and eliminating upfront hardware and installation costs for UMass Boston.
