Lancaster School District Saves on Energy with Battery Storage and Enel X’s DER Optimization Software

Lancaster School District, a K-8 district serving more than 15,000 students in Lancaster, California, was looking for the best way to use Prop 39 clean energy funds after already having solar on its campuses. To reduce energy costs and demand charges, the district turned to Enel X and its DER Optimization Software (DER.OS) as part of a battery storage project.

Enel X worked with Enable Energy to install battery storage systems at 10 school sites and use DER.OS to optimize charging and discharging alongside existing solar generation. The system helps shave peak demand and lower utility bills by storing excess solar energy for later use, and it even continued saving money during COVID shutdowns when schools were closed.
