A Enel X Case Study
Kimberly-Clark’s Huntsville mill in Ontario needed a way to manage energy use at a 24/7 tissue manufacturing facility without disrupting production. Working with Enel X and its Ontario demand response program support, the company explored how the plant could participate in demand response while protecting operations and improving energy efficiency.
Enel X helped Kimberly-Clark identify a much larger curtailment opportunity than originally expected, enabling the mill to shut down its tissue machine during 4-hour dispatch events and reduce up to 5.3 MW from the grid. The plant used dispatch downtime for scheduled maintenance, earned standby and capacity payments totaling more than $2.3 million since 2011, improved equipment planning, and strengthened sustainability and grid reliability outcomes.
