Industrial Mineral Supplier Earns Demand Response Payments Without Affecting Mining and Processing Operations

U.S. Silica, a major industrial mineral supplier with a high-energy mining and processing operation in Jackson, Tennessee, needed a way to lower electricity costs while supporting its community and avoiding disruptions to production. The company partnered with Enel X and joined the TVA-Enel X Demand Response program, using Enel X’s energy intelligence software (EIS) to better monitor and manage its energy use.

Enel X helped U.S. Silica set up a simple curtailment plan so the facility could temporarily shut down silica processing during peak-demand dispatches while mining continued uninterrupted. The result was an average reduction of 1 MW within 30 minutes, annual demand response payments of more than $30,000, and ongoing energy savings from improved operational visibility and efficiency.
