How United States Cold Storage Supports Sustainability Through Demand Response

United States Cold Storage, a leading cold storage logistics company with 43 facilities across the U.S., wanted to turn its energy use into a revenue opportunity while supporting its sustainability goals. With rising focus on zero-carbon operations, the company needed a way to reduce peak electricity demand without disrupting temperature-sensitive frozen inventory, and it partnered with Enel X to participate in demand response programs.

Enel X helped United States Cold Storage enroll more than 20 sites in 7 nationwide demand response programs, enabling facilities to quickly respond to grid events by curtailing refrigeration loads, deferring defrosts, and using pre-programmed controls. The result has been nearly $1 million in total demand response earnings, with the company on track to reach its $1 million goal while also reducing on-peak demand and supporting its sustainability strategy.
