How Italgrani USA Enrolled in Demand Response as Part of Its ESG Efforts

Italgrani USA, North America’s largest semolina and durum flour miller, wanted to advance its ESG goals while continuing to run an energy-intensive milling operation in St. Louis, Missouri. To support those efforts, the company enrolled in Ameren Missouri’s Business Demand Response program, managed by Enel X, so it could participate in grid-support events without major disruption to operations.

With Enel X, Italgrani USA received payments for reducing electricity demand during peak stress on the grid, helping create a greener grid in the St. Louis area. The revenue also supported additional ESG initiatives, including campus-wide automatic lighting and a food-material recycling program that kept residual product out of landfills. Italgrani USA reported minimal operational impact thanks to advance notice and praised Enel X for responsive, professional service.
