Farm Managers Harvest Energy Savings and Avoid Surcharges
West Hills Farm Services, which manages pistachio and almond orchards, faced the challenge of containing rising operational costs. A significant expense was energy used for irrigation, and they were also at risk of substantial surcharges from their utility's peak pricing program. They partnered with Enel X to find a solution.
Enel X enrolled the farm's irrigation pumps in its Demand Response for Agriculture program. This involved installing monitoring equipment and allowing the pumps to be shut down remotely during peak demand events. The solution provided West Hills Farm Services with energy usage visibility and shelter from surcharges, while also generating approximately $9,000 in annual incentives. The advanced metering also helped the farm anticipate pump maintenance needs.
