A Enel X Case Study
Pawtucket Water Supply Board operates the Pawtucket Water Treatment Facility in Rhode Island, serving more than 100,000 residents with critical water treatment and backup power capabilities. When new EPA regulations prevented its backup generator from qualifying for ISO-NE demand response, the facility lost access to a program that had helped it earn payments for reducing grid load during emergencies.
Enel X evaluated the facility’s backup generator, covered the upgrade costs, and coordinated the work so the site could rejoin demand response using its backup generator. The result was a no-cost generator upgrade, enrollment of 500 kW of capacity, and more than $116,000 in demand response payments over five years after project costs, while also helping the customer manage demand charges and receive early warnings of grid stress.
