Enel X Finances Backup Generator Upgrade to Maximize Demand Response Earnings for Texas Hospital

Nine Backup Generators, a Texas hospital, wanted to take advantage of ERCOT’s demand response program, but faced two major hurdles: EPA compliance requirements for backup generators and the need to shift its full electric load on and off generator power without interrupting service. Enel X helped the hospital address these challenges through a demand response enablement and financing solution.

Enel X financed and implemented upgrades to seven of the hospital’s nine diesel generators, with two already compliant, allowing the facility to enroll 4.2 MW of load in ERCOT’s DR program. The project cost more than $378K upfront, but Nine Backup Generators is expected to earn more than $467K over five years net of upgrade costs, while also gaining testing, dispatch support, outage alerts, and operational visibility from Enel X.
