Eastern Municipal Water District Works with Enel X to Reduce Significant Electrical Load

Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD), a large water provider in Southern California serving more than 630,000 people, needed a way to manage electricity demand without disrupting its mission of delivering clean, affordable water. To address this challenge, EMWD worked with Enel X using its demand response program in Southern California Edison territory.

With Enel X’s demand response solution, EMWD curtails about 1.5 MW of load by shutting down or reducing operation of major equipment, such as pumps, during peak periods. The program has minimal operational impact and earns EMWD approximately $100,000 annually, while also helping stabilize the grid and reduce peak demand for Southern California Edison.
