Dublin Airport boosts grid resilience and 43% renewable generation with Enel X

Dublin Airport, operated by daa, sought to enhance its sustainability and operational resilience while contributing to Ireland's renewable energy goals. The challenge was to effectively participate in the national DS3 programme, which required the ability to provide flexible power capacity to help stabilize the grid. The airport partnered with vendor Enel X to utilize its demand response service.

Enel X implemented a demand response solution that allowed Dublin Airport to rapidly adjust its energy usage and provide over 11 MW of flexible capacity to the grid. This enabled the airport to earn compensation while supporting grid stability and the integration of renewables. The programme was a success, helping Ireland exceed its 2020 target by generating 43% of its electricity from renewable sources and setting the stage for even more ambitious future goals.
