A Enel X Case Study
Boston Properties (BXP), one of the largest owners and managers of first-class office properties in the U.S., needed to lower energy costs while also meeting ambitious sustainability goals across a large, multi-region portfolio. The company also faced a heavy manual burden in collecting, normalizing, and reporting energy data for industry benchmarks and surveys. To address these challenges, BXP turned to Enel X for energy intelligence software, energy supply management, and utility bill management services.
Enel X implemented a centralized platform that gave Boston Properties visibility into site-level and portfolio-wide energy data, automated bill auditing and processing, supported energy efficiency projects, and streamlined reporting to ENERGY STAR and GRESB. The results were significant: BXP achieved about $565K in energy efficiency savings in 2016, generated $2.6M in demand response revenue since 2011, and avoided $1.8M in energy costs through strategic supply management. The company also exceeded its 2020 intensity targets, reaching a 19.8% reduction in energy use intensity and a 31.5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity below its 2008 baseline.
