Amhil North America Manages Rising Demand-related Electricity Costs With Energy Storage

Amhil North America, an Ontario-based food packaging company, was looking for a way to manage rising electricity costs tied to peak demand periods. The company partnered with Enel X, which had already been supporting Amhil as a demand response customer since 2010, and added a behind-the-meter energy storage solution to its energy management strategy.

Enel X installed and operates a 2.34 MW / 4.7 MWh lithium-ion battery system that automatically charges and discharges to optimize energy use during peak hours. The solution expands Amhil’s participation in Ontario’s demand response program, supports local grid reliability, and is expected to deliver 20% savings in energy expenditure over the 11-year contract while generating additional demand response revenue.
