Algoma Orchards Reduces Global Adjustment Charges, Earns Demand Response Payments with Enel X’s Energy Storage Solution

Algoma Orchards, a family-owned commercial orchard in Ontario, needed to reduce high electricity costs without disrupting its cider production, apple packing operations, or product quality. In partnership with Enel X, the company used the System Peak Predictor program and energy storage to better manage demand charges tied to Ontario’s Global Adjustment (GA) costs.

Enel X installed a 520 kW/1,040 kWh lithium-ion battery system with DER Optimization Software to automatically charge when power prices were low and shift facility load during likely system peak events and demand response periods. The solution enabled Algoma Orchards to lower GA and other demand charges, earn DR payments, and support grid reliability with no upfront cost or operational risk.
