A Endicia Case Study

Making online trading simple, fair, and fun

Bookins is an online trading community for book and movie lovers launched in 2005. Founder Mitchell Silverman identified that the biggest barrier to peer-to-peer swapping was the postage and shipping hassle—traders had to exchange addresses, calculate postage, and visit the post office—so he set out to make swaps simple, fair, and fun.

Bookins integrated Endicia’s Label Server API to let members print pre-paid, pre-calculated, metered and trackable USPS labels (first‑class or media mail with delivery confirmation) on demand. The built-in labels removed logistical friction, boosted member convenience, supported new features like DVD trading and social sharing, and gave Bookins a scalable, reliable shipping backbone as transactions grow from hundreds of thousands toward millions.
