Preview of the U.S. Department Store Case Study

How Encycle Helped a Big-box Department Store Chain Reap Nearly $2 Million in Annual Energy Savings and Demand Response Incentives

U.S. Department Store, a national big-box retail chain with 200 stores across the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, needed a scalable way to reduce energy costs, improve visibility into HVAC performance, and capture missed demand response revenue. The customer turned to Encycle and its Swarm Logic cloud-based solution to help manage energy use across a very large HVAC footprint of nearly 3,000 units.

Encycle integrated Swarm Logic with the retailer’s existing building automation systems, enabling HVAC equipment to operate more efficiently as a network while maintaining comfort. The results included $1,270,000 in annual energy savings, a 16.2% reduction in total HVAC electric consumption, more than 7,000,000 kWh saved per year, up to 3,300 kW per month of peak demand reduction, and $650,000 in first-year demand response incentives from the California market alone.
