Saving the Honey Bees with Computer Vision

Pollenize, a UK-based pollinator conservation company, created The Far Out Thinking Company to apply AI to biodiversity and invasive-species detection. Their team needed an accessible, affordable way for multiple non-technical team members to annotate image data quickly so they could build computer vision models to identify Asian Hornets, European Hornets, and common wasps.

Using Encord’s annotation platform, The Far Out Thinking Company was able to label 4,500 images in just three hours and train a model for its Asian Hornet ID Device. Encord helped the team collaborate more easily, speed up model development, and reduce time and cost, enabling early deployments of the device on the Isle of Scilly and further pilots with Associated British Ports while supporting additional biodiversity projects.
