Treeconomy, an Earth Tech company, sought to accurately measure carbon content in forests to create reliable carbon credits. Their traditional method of manually measuring trees was time-consuming and error-prone, and their initial exploration of satellite imagery and computer vision still required inefficient manual work. They turned to vendor Encord for a data annotation solution to help improve their model.

Encord provided an intuitive data annotation tool that Treeconomy used to label images and train its computer vision algorithm to count trees accurately and efficiently. This enabled Treeconomy to gather highly reliable data, cutting the time to count an entire forest from two weeks down to two minutes. The more accurate carbon credits generated allowed Treeconomy to sell them at a premium of 50% to 150% above alternative options, increasing revenue that is channeled back into reforestation efforts.
