Yara improves efficiency and safety with digital permit-to-work

Yara International ASA, a Norway‑based global fertilizer and industrial chemicals company with 18,000 employees and operations in 60+ countries, faced inefficiencies and safety gaps from paper-based permit-to-work processes. Poor communication between Maintenance and Operations and unclear handovers meant maintenance jobs were sometimes unprepared, creating potential safety risks and inconsistent practices across sites.

Yara implemented Enablon’s digital permit-to-work, aligning permitting with maintenance workflows, supporting local languages and SAP integration, and standardizing hazard controls. The change sped up permit issuance and closure (about three minutes saved per permit), improved collaboration and safety, and delivered large efficiency gains—roughly 30 hours saved per day across 20 sites (≈6,000 hours/year, about 3.75 FTEs)—while enabling better field coaching and planning.
