A eMudhra Case Study
A defence establishment in India faced the challenge of securing its digital communications with a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) that was entirely sovereign and free from external dependencies. Their reliance on external civilian Certificate Authorities created security vulnerabilities, as the processes for certificate issuance, validation, and subscriber management could not be integrated into their air-gapped, classified military networks. To address this, they partnered with vendor eMudhra to implement a secure, internal PKI solution.
eMudhra deployed its emCA solution, which included a Certificate Authority, a Registration Authority, and an OCSP Validation Authority, all operating entirely within the defence establishment's own security perimeter. This implementation provided a fully sovereign, air-gap-capable PKI, eliminating all external dependencies. The results included internally governed certificate issuance, real-time validation within closed networks, and a complete internal audit trail, establishing a defence-grade digital trust infrastructure for their mission-critical systems.
