Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR), led in ANZ HR by Jen Graham, operates over 300 airport-based restaurants, cafés and bars and faced acute COVID-19 pressures: rapid transition to remote work, supporting staff wellbeing as sites closed and headcount plunged, and major recruitment challenges. To manage almost 300 people across Australia and New Zealand and respond quickly to changing government directives, ELR relied on the cloud-based HR platform Employment Hero.

Using Employment Hero’s cloud platform — including Onboarding and Offboarding Checklists and Tasks — ELR moved to a paperless, 100% digital onboarding process, gave managers real-time visibility of workflows, and cut reliance on emails and manual processes. Employment Hero enabled ELR to coordinate large stand-down recoveries (handling dozens of staff returning in a week), streamline cross-team tasks, and centrally manage people across locations, improving manager effectiveness and operational transparency.
