A Empatica Case Study
Takeda, a global biopharmaceutical company, sought to improve the diagnosis of Fabry Disease, a rare genetic disorder where a common symptom is absent or reduced sweating. To create a digital biomarker for this condition, Takeda collaborated with vendor Empatica.
Empatica implemented its EmbracePlus wearable to collect Electrodermal Activity (EDA) data and study its correlation with sweat patterns. Using this data, Empatica developed an algorithm that could distinguish between low and high sweating subjects with a sensitivity of 77.27% and a specificity of 75.86%. This marked a significant step forward in rare disease management, indicating the device's potential as a pivotal tool for enhancing diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
