Oncology monitors 34 breast cancer patients with Empatica EmbracePlus

The customer, a major oncology center, faced the challenge of objectively measuring stress in breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy, as traditional patient-reported methods were insufficient for capturing responses during high-anxiety procedures like CT scans and LINAC treatments. To address this, they partnered with vendor Empatica and implemented the FDA-cleared EmbracePlus wearable to continuously monitor physiological stress biomarkers.

Empatica's solution was seamlessly integrated into the clinical workflow, enabling the reliable and unobtrusive capture of electrodermal activity, pulse rate variability, pulse rate, and skin temperature data. The results demonstrated high patient compliance, strong usability, and the successful collection of high-quality data from 34 out of a target 50 patients, providing objective insights to complement patient-reported outcomes.
