Biogen monitors pediatric KCNT1 epilepsy for up to 6 months with Empatica

Biogen, a leading biotech organization, sought to characterize seizures in pediatric patients with KCNT1-related epilepsy for a natural history study. Their challenge was monitoring this patient population, which can experience frequent seizures and has smaller wrist sizes due to potential growth restrictions. To overcome this, Biogen collaborated with vendor Empatica and utilized its EmbracePlus wearable.

Empatica implemented a fully decentralized trial where participants wore the EmbracePlus to continuously monitor physiological signals for up to six months. Using its custom seizure detection algorithm, Empatica provided individual seizure reports for all participants, enabling researchers to gather crucial data and overcome the obstacle of monitoring patients with smaller wrists.
