A Emergence Case Study

National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation builds a people-over-profits movement with Emergence

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), a coalition of nonprofit healthcare providers, faced the challenge of redefining its brand amidst a hospice industry increasingly dominated by for-profit entities. These for-profit providers deliver significantly fewer patient services, contributing to a crisis of trust in the healthcare system. NPHI engaged the vendor Emergence for brand positioning strategy to better communicate its value to providers, payers, policymakers, and the public.

Emergence conducted extensive research and developed a new brand positioning for NPHI, culminating in the "People Over Profits" blueprint. This strategy repositioned NPHI around its community roots and values-based care. The results were widely adopted by NPHI's 100+ members for local outreach and were distributed on Capitol Hill to support policy work, establishing NPHI as a trusted national authority. Emergence helped build a movement that effectively contrasts mission-driven care with the for-profit model.
